A Weekend to Singapore

Tumpang-ed Cindy's glamour, I set on an impromptu weekend trip to Singapore last month.

There really isn't a lot to write about Singapore, it's either new mall / new eateries..boring stuffs like that. But this I have got to post - it's the newly renovated Pan Pacific Singapore we stayed in.

Being a 5 star luxury hotel, they have been nominated for the Seven Star Global Luxury Award in April 2013. It is a luxury lifestyle award showcasing only the pinnacle in lifestyle and hospitality from around the world. Nominees in all categories are selected and approved by an International Luxury Panel comprised of high profile, well travelled individuals who have experienced the best in hospitality, lifestyle and luxury products.

One of the hotel's highlight is Atrium - an eclectic collection of seating pods floating over a reflection pool, also consists of a dramatic 22 metre long bar, featuring a wide range of curated beers, boutique wine and spirits.

Took this picture from the lift, see the floating pods

View you would get if you look up from the Atrium, cute bullet lifts

Spacious and light-filled Deluxe room and bathroom

Spacious and light-filled Deluxe room & bathroom

Pool view we get from our room, opposite is Marina Square and Suntec (really really very near)
Comfy King size beds as well :)

Will definitely come back for a stay again, not to forget the food quality is really good here (all award winning mah..)

Check out their e-brochure for more info.

My 25th Birthday - An Important Halfway Point

To me, 25th birthday is an important milestone signifying stability and foundation.
As i reflect back on my past 24 years, I'm glad I've achieved something in my life.

  1. Lived a great 8 years exploring the world on my own since mummy left when I was 18
  2. Lived a torturing 2 years of traveling to-and-fro (JB-SG) everyday just because I made a promise to myself I must gain the experience of working abroad
  3. Despite the madness of traveling and self-centered employers I got myself into, I mastered the event skill and work/life surviving poker face skill (not too bad of a 2 years I guess)
  4. Understood a little more in-depth on Singapore and Singaporean
  5. Came back to Malaysia with a renewed state of mind & a new job that I'm absolutely loving it now
  6. Got a new car
  7. Got a not-so-new house

To be able to list all these down at this point, I must say Ashley Phua, you've done well.
And to commemorate my achievement, I threw myself a little party at Mezza9 as a reward :)

Theme of the night - Occupation

Your Other Senses Take Charge

It was a unique and memorable dining experience for baby's 29th birthday this year. We dined in the dark, literally.

Not talking about dimly lit candlelight dinner, it was pitch dark, like one of the scene in CSI where everyone dine in the dark, and a man got killed.

It may not be something new in other countries, but it is definitely new in Malaysia. Located above Werner's at Changkat Bukit Bintang, Dining In The Dark is a new concept restaurant by Werner Kuhn (who also owns el Cerdo).

My advice is go there with an open heart, and trust the experts (their service staff consists of visually impaired and blind persons who lead their daily life without or with minimal light) to guide you through the whole dining experience. The food may not be top notch, but it is undeniable that their Surprise Menu is carefully designed and prepared for a fine dining experience.

The signage is quite small and hard to spot if you are not familiar with the area

Some games at the waiting area before we proceed for dining in the dark

Find paperclips amongst the rice - TOUCH

We only managed to find 2 out of 4, not that easy

Guess which is green bean, rice, and barley by shaking it - LISTEN

 Flash too bright haha

Some clues on what kind of ingredients we will be having for our meal

A picture before we enter the door, you have to deposit your bags and lighters and handphones etc (anything with light / glow) into the locker before you enter

After 1.5 hours, we had our after meal coffee / tea downstairs

Oh. forgot to mention, the complete menu writeup of the 3 course meal we had will be revealed after we completed and exited the dark room.

Do try this place out, put food aside, you will learn how to respect the blinds / visually impaired folks.

Treasure by Bruno Mars

This funky retro tune has been stuck on my mind for the past 2 days, i kept hitting the repeat button and dancing to it.

Seeing the official video, I can't help to see the reminiscence of Jackson 5. I even think Bruno looks a bit like MJ in this music video.

I find this quote below funny but so damn true:
"While Bruno might not have the moves of Chris Brown, his attention to detail as a musician trumps Chris’ ability to moonwalk and crotch grab easily" - by Gossiponthis.com

Baby squirrel, you're a sexy motherfucker :)

Hong Kong Getaway 2013

Short getaway trip to nearby country is always a good choice to loosen up yourself a bit from the heavy workload. Yup, I was at Hong Kong for 3 days 2 nights, perfect timing for the sales season.

Not gonna touch on what was the damage done, instead will be recommending some of the good food places introduced by my local HK friend :)

1. 镛记酒家 - Chinese restaurant @ Wellington Street, Central HK

Signature starter: 皮蛋酸姜 marinated ginger with century egg
乳鸽 roast pigeon
乳猪,烧鹅,叉烧拼盘 roasted suckling pig, roast goose, & charsiu platter

Price:

2. Petite Amanda - Authentic french pastries @ IFC Mall, opened by famous model Amanda S.

Left: Cant rmb the name, but the texture is extremely soft, with cheesy taste of mousse and strawberry jam fillings in the middle
Right: Plaisir sucré (sweet pleasure), a lovely combination of milk choc and hazelnut, it's abit too sweet for those that doesn't have a sweettooth

Charlotte aux Poires (main ingredients are lady finger biscuit, pears, & pear mousse)

Price:

3. 大利清湯腩 - Over 20 years history @ 天后地鐵站電器道出口, specialized in beef brisket

Beef brisket is so tender and nice. I have never tasted such sweet juicy radish before, probably it soaked up all the beef broth

It says: Please remember to drink the soup, if not it's your lost.

Price:

Tips: Many reviews also commented that 華姐清湯腩 (located next to 大利清湯腩) actually tastes better. Have to try it next time!

Malaysia is not safe

To serve as a reminder to myself and everyone out there, and to answer my friends that has been asking about it, I decided to write about this horrible incident occurred to me about a month ago.

Below is a map which will help you to understand better (red dot is where the incident happened).

On 9th June 2013, my bf & I was on our way back from Scotts Garden. It was around 4 plus in the morning. Upon approaching PETRON, i was feeling gassy and bloated in the stomach (had beer before that), so I told my bf to stop aside for me to puke it out.

If you can see from the map, our car was actually parked right beside on the highway as we missed the turning into PETRON.

I opened the front passenger side's door, and my position was something like below all the while when I was puking:

My bf walked over to my side and saw that my legs were stained, he then walked into PETRON to get me some tissues (while I was still puking).

Before I further elaborate on the incident, I must say that this incident is totally avoidable. It was our carelessness that gave the bastards opportunity to take action. First of all, I shouldn't take it for granted that it's okay to just pull aside at the highway in the middle of the night just because there is a guy next to me. Secondly, never ever think that it is okay to walk away from your female friends for even just a minute. A minute or 30 seconds is more than enough for the bastards, they act freaking fast.

Both my bf & I just came back from Singapore like few months ago, our alertness and precaution level has never been so low before, because to be honest Singapore is a god damn safe country. Kudos to the Merlion City.

While my bf was at the counter getting tissues, and I was still puking, a guy grabbed my left boobs and asked: "Ah Moi, you ok tak?" (I still cringe at the thought of it). I was totally wide awake, shoved his hand away, slammed the passenger door shut, and locked the central locking at the driver's seat. I crawled over to the driver's seat, all I know was I need to drive away and escape. While I was doing the crawl over + release handbrake + adjusting the gear, there was another guy trying to smash the driver's seat window. While I am writing about this, I can't express how gratitude I am to my Raytech security solar window film. My window only breaks after 3 - 4 hits, which is equivalent to 3 - 4 seconds. That extra few seconds was all I need to be able to escape in time (my window breaks at the same time when I accelerate).

Yes, I drove off without my bf. He did not witnessed anything at all, so imagine how fast those bastards were. I drove back to his parents' place, just to found that my bag has already been taken. That guy must have taken it when he molested me, art of distraction.

All in all, valuables in my bag was gone, driver's seat window was smashed, I got a few glass cuts due to the smashed windows, and some blue blacks here and there, super traumatized, BUT most importantly, I am still here writing to you, not found at any bushes / jungles / rivers.

I reported my case, but it was just a compulsory procedure because I needed the police report to replace my lost documents. I don't wanna comment much about our Malaysian's police quality, I guess this is sufficient.

Last but not least, thank you Lord for your blessings upon us. In Malaysia, police couldn't help much. You can only depend on yourself. Be extra alert. And also, put a lot of tissues in your car :p

Please share my story to your friend to serve as a reminder to them.
